Football season is here! I know some of you are very excited to watch the action on the field, but personally, I'm all about the food.
Being from the Green Bay area originally, I do have to root for the Packers. But don't tell anyone from Wisconsin that I really care much more about game day food than the game itself. Seriously ... shh!
I love game day food. It's usually full of carbs, cheesy, and fun to eat. Definitely a guilty pleasure!
These spicy Buffalo Tatchos (Tater Tot Nachos) totally fit that game day bill, plus this is one recipe everyone will love. I mean, who doesn't love a big bowl of hot, crunchy tater tots?
And you know what makes tater tots even better? Lots of delicious toppings!
Buffalo Tater Tatchos (Tater Tot Nachos)
Believe it or not, these loaded buffalo tater tots were inspired by a dish I had at a Dallas bar on Christmas Day last year.
My Christmas was pretty quiet—it was just my husband and I—and we had big plans to go out for Chinese food. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant, we found out that it wasn't opening for hours.
We were starving, so we ended up eating at a sports bar instead ... very Christmasy, I know. It was a super festive meal of Buffalo Tatchos and Moscow Mules.
What that meal lacked in tradition though, it made up for it in flavor. My husband and I loved those spicy tater tots, so this recipe has been a long time coming!
How to Make Buffalo Tachos (Tater Tot Nachos)
In case you're not familiar with tatchos, let me explain. Tachos are simply nachos made with tater tots. And this tater tot nacho recipe has a fun, spicy twist that's perfect for anyone who loves buffalo sauce.
These Buffalo Tachos are perfect for parties. They're so easy to make, and there is very little hands on cooking time, which means more time to hang out with your guests!
You'll start by baking the tater tots until they're golden and crispy.
When the tots are almost done cooking, it's time to make the homemade buffalo sauce. This tangy sauce is super quick to make, and the bold flavor is definitely worth the very minimal effort.
All you need to do is saute a little garlic in butter, then mix in Frank's RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce, plus a little sriracha for extra kick. Bring the mixture to a boil, and your buffalo sauce is done ... easy peasy.
To serve these yummy Buffalo Tatchos, put those crispy tater tots on a large plate or platter, then drizzle them with your homemade buffalo sauce. If you have more than one layer of tots, make sure to drizzle some sauce in between the layers. Try to get a little sauce on every bite.
Then, sprinkle the tater tots with crumbled blue cheese and green onions. Yum!
Not a fan of blue cheese? Replace it with ranch dressing.
And that's it ... your Buffalo Tatchos are ready to eat. Now all you need to do is pair these yummy Buffalo Tatchos with my Easy Beergaritas, and you are set for football season!
