I don't know about you, but I take tons of photos. They're mostly stored on my computer, phone, or in photo boxes though.
My mom was a prolific photographer, too, and while looking through her old photos recently, I thought it was time to display some of them.
I love the idea of a photo wall display that's easily changeable. And I know you can buy photo display systems, but I thought it would be fun to make my own!
If you're looking for creative ways to display photos without frames, too, you are going to love this cheap and easy DIY Photo Display that I came up with!
I had so much fun looking through my mom's photos. There are some real gems from the late seventies and early eighties ... that's me with my grandmothers in that photo above!
With as much as my husband and I move, there was no way I was going to frame all those pics. If you're looking for creative photo display ideas that are easily removable and won't damage your walls, too, this DIY Photo Display is a great solution.
You don't need a lot of supplies to set up this photo wall display idea ... just some Command Hooks, twine, and mini clothespins!
My DIY Photo Display was pretty small, but the best part about this quick, easy DIY project is that you can make it as big or as small as you'd like!
Set up this photo wall display idea in a little nook or cover a whole wall with your favorite pictures. I'm already trying to figure out where to set up a photo wall in my new apartment.
And it takes minutes to create. I'm all about instant gratification when it comes to DIY projects, so this is totally my kind of project!
Give it a try if you are wondering how to display photos without frames, too!
How to Make a DIY Photo Display
Here's what you'll need to set up this creative photo display idea:
- Command Mini Hooks
- ruler
- scissors
- Twine
- Mini Clothespins
Start by figuring out how big you want your DIY Photo Display to be. Mine was pretty small, with the 3 rows 8 inches apart and about 24 inches wide.
Once you figure out your setup, apply the Command Strips to your wall. Follow the package directions to make sure they adhere properly.
Make sure to measure the distance between the strips. That way everything will be even and straight.
Apply the plastic part of the hook (again, follow package directions).
Then, trim the excess Command Strip so your wall looks a little neater.
Make sure to leave enough of the Command Strip attached so that you can grab onto it when it's time to remove the hooks.
Attach the twine to the hooks, using a double knot to secure it.
Then, attach the twine to the opposite hook, pulling it fairly tight. This will keep it from sagging when you add your pictures.
Trim the twine close to the knot with your scissors.
Your DIY Photo Display should look something like the image below when you are done. Next time, I think I'll use clear Command Hooks, but I'm happy with how this turned out.
Like I mentioned earlier, my hooks were about 24 inches apart horizontally. If your hooks are more than 3 feet apart, I'd recommend adding an additional hook in the middle, just to support the twine.
That way, the twine won't sag once you add photos.
Then it's time for the fun part ... adding the photos!
Simply clip your pics on with the mini clothespins.
I love this photo I found of my mom!
Wasn't that fun and easy?
Once I finally unpack my new apartment, I can't wait to get my new photo wall set up.
This would also be a creative way to display photos for weddings, birthday parties, bridal showers, and other parties!
There are lots of ways to customize this DIY Photo Display according to your décor, too!
Simply vary the color of twine and clothespins.
You could also create extra rows to make it any size you want ... or even just do one single row.
Here are some easy ideas:
- Create an idustrial looks with metal command hooks, wire, and silver clothespins.
- Or create a more colorful look with clear command hooks, colorful twine, and painted clothespins.
Whatever you use to create it, this DIY Photo Display is such a fun way to show off your favorite pics!
