I don't know about you, but I've never met a banana bread that I didn't like. It's the perfect treat morning, noon, or night, and it's a great way to use up old bananas.

There's one foolproof way to make this classic quick bread even better though ... chocolate chips! Chocolate and bananas are a natural pair. If you've never tried them together, you're in for a treat.

This Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is the ultimate treat for chocolate lovers and banana lovers alike. Best of all, the recipe is super easy, the bread is tender, buttery, and moist, and each bite is loaded banana flavor and rich chocolate chunks. So delicious!

With all the chocolate, this easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread makes a great dessert. But it's perfect for breakfast, brunch, and snacks, too. Just trust me, you want to make a batch of this yummy bread ASAP!

Ready to get started? Then keep scrolling for all the details!

    Ingredients

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips is a simple recipe, so make sure to use top notch ingredients. Here's what you'll need:

    • Chocolate Chips – It's hard to go wrong with chocolate, but you'll still want to use the highest quality chips you can find. I like Guittard and Ghirardelli best, but classic Nestlé works great, too! Feel free to use semi-sweet, bittersweet, milk, or dark chocolate chips ... whatever you prefer will work.
    • Bananas - You will also need a couple bananas, of course. For best results, make sure your bananas are mostly brown before making this recipe.
    • Nuts - Nuts are optional in this recipe, but they make a delicious addition. I prefer to use walnuts or pecans. For extra flavor, toast the nuts before adding them to the recipe.
    • Other Ingredients - Along with these ingredients, you'll use a combination of typical baking supplies: unsalted butter, granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, baking soda and baking powder, vanilla extract, eggs, and salt.

    You'll Also Need

To make this recipe, you'll need stand mixer (or a hand mixer) to blend the wet ingredients together, as well as spatula to fold in the dry ingredients and a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan to bake the bread. I used a glass loaf pan for these photo, but I also have (and love) this nonstick metal pan.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

This Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Bread is super simple to make! You'll find a detailed recipe card below, but here's an overview of the steps:

    1. Mix butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Start by creaming together the butter and sugar with your stand (or hand) mixer. Then, blend in the eggs and vanilla.
    2. Whisk together dry ingredients. Next, use a whisk to combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
    3. Combine wet + dry ingredients. Use a spatula to fold the flour mixture into the butter mixture, mixing until everything is just combined. Tip: The key to success with any quick bread is not over-mixing. You should still be able to see flour spots.
    4. Add bananas, chocolate, and nuts. Gently fold in the bananas, chocolate chips, and nuts using the spatula. Do not over-mix.
    5. Bake. Transfer the batter to a loaf pan, smooth out the top, then sprinkle with more chocolate chips and nuts. Bake the bread until it's a deep golden color and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Let cool before cutting.

The hardest part about this recipe is letting the bread cool before you dig in ... the struggle is real! But your patience will be rewarded with a slice of THE BEST Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. It's definitely worth the wait.

    Storage

Cool the bread completely, then store it in an airtight container at room temperature (or in your refrigerator, if your home is warm), where it will stay fresh for up to four days. You can also wrap the bread tightly, then freeze it for a couple months. I actually like to make a double batch, then freeze the second loaf to enjoy later!

    Notes

When measuring the flour, use a spoon to add the flour to your measuring cups, then level off the top with a flat edge (such as a knife). Do not scoop the measuring cup into the flour; this will compact the flour, and you'll end up adding too much.
Make sure your bananas are overripe and browned.
