Do you wear sunscreen every day?
As someone with pale skin, I don't do well in the sun. My skin burns easily (I can almost feel it happening), and in summer I tend to turn an intense shade of red rather than a flattering golden tan.
Since my twenties, I've been obsessed with wearing SPF daily. If you spot me at the beach, most likely I'll be under an umbrella. I always try to find the shady side of the street, and even if I'm not wearing makeup, I never leave my home without applying sunscreen.
Sunscreen is an important part of my anti-aging routine, and it should be part of yours, too. Keep reading to find out why, plus get my tips for finding the perfect SPF for your skin!
5 Reasons You Should Wear Sunscreen Every Day
There are so many every day benefits to wearing sunscreen!
If sunscreen isn't a part of your routine, you're not alone. Even though ⅔ of women know they should wear SPF daily, only ⅓ actually do.
SPF isn't exactly the most appealing beauty product out there ... it’s greasy, heavy, leaves white streaks on skin, doesn’t work well with makeup, and smells too strong. I think you know what talking about!
It's all about finding the right SPF product though. Today, I'm sharing easy tips for finding a great SPF, plus five reasons why you should wear sunscreen every day.
Daily Sunscreen Use Helps Prevent Premature Aging
Okay, I'm going to start by appealing directly to your vanity! If you're anything like me, you'd do pretty much anything to prevent wrinkles. Rather than resorting to drastic measures, like botox or lasers, there's an easier solution: wear sunscreen every day. Simple, right?
The importance of wearing sunscreen on your face cannot be underestimated. Exposure to the sun is the primary cause of wrinkles, sun spots, and other signs of aging skin.
Which is why I love Olay Total Effect Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 15. This fan favorite is so much more than a standard sunscreen. It's a multi-tasking product that delivers seven benefits in one, and it has a sheer, lightweight formula that's easy to wear. It's also packed with vitamins to leave your skin healthy-looking, fast.
I have combination skin, and I love that this product doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. That's so hard to find in an SPF!

Sunscreen Protects Your Skin from Harmful UV Rays
Exposure to the sun—even a little bit here and there—can be damaging.
Ultraviolet rays from the sun can damage your eyes, suppress your immune system, and cause your skin to break down over time. Things you might think of as normal effect of aging (saggy, splotchy skin, wrinkles, and age spots) are actually caused by sun exposure.
Wearing sunblock daily is an easy way to protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays. Make sure to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and a hat to protect your scalp, too.
Using Sunscreen Daily Lowers Your Risk of Skin Cancer
Of course, prolonged exposure to the sun can do more than cause wrinkles. It can lead to skin cancer.
There are some easy ways you can reduce your risk of developing skin cancer: avoiding the sun when it's strongest (between 10 am and 2 pm); cultivating a faux tan instead of a real one; wearing UV-blocking sunglasses and clothing and examining your skin regularly for irregular moles and spots.
It's also very important to avoid unprotected exposure to the sun. This is simple to do by using a daily sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF protection, like Olay Total Effects SPF 15.
Sunscreen Helps Prevent Sunburn
There is nothing worse than spending a wonderful day at the beach, then returning home and seeing a ruby red face in the mirror.
Not only are sunburns unflattering (all that blotchy, peeling skin is the worst), but bad burns lead to wrinkles and can increase your risk of developing skin cancer. Why take your chances when it's so easy to protect your skin with sunscreen?
If you are going to the pool or beach, remember to reapply your sunscreen after swimming.
And remember, it's much safer to rock a faux tan than a real one. Check out my pale girl's guide to getting a natural glow for more tips!
The Right Sunscreen Can Double as a Moisturizer
Do you skip SPF because you don't want to add another product to your morning line-up? It's understandable, but when you choose the right sunscreen, it can actually simplify your daily routine.
Especially if you have oily or combination skin like me, you may not want to layer on another product. So rather than looking for a stand-alone sunblock, choose a non-greasy sunscreen that can act as both an SPF and a moisturizer.
This is another reason why I like Olay Total Effects SPF 15. Not only is it a sunscreen, but it also replenishes moisture and provides anti-aging benefits, like evening out skin tone, smoothing fine lines, and reducing dark spots.
It's pretty much the ultimate multi-tasking product!
I hope you enjoyed reading about why you should wear sunscreen every day.
Do you use SPF every day like me, or do you tend to skip it? Let me know, I'd love to hear about your daily routine!

I never knew that overexposure to the sun was the primary reason for wrinkles and sunspots. My wife and I are getting older and we are looking for ways to prevent some illnesses we could get from the sun, but we also love the idea of preventing our faces from aging even more. Your article does a great job of explaining why it's so important to wear sunscreen every day.
