When I was a kid, I loved to read and did it nonstop, especially over summer vacation. I could finish multiple books a week for sure.
It's been a while since I've read at that rate! Now I'm lucky to get through a book every couple months. There's still nothing better than curling up with a great book though, especially when I have a warm, cozy drink nearby ... like my favorite Sweet Cinnamon Milk Tea!
This wonderful, lightly sweetened Milk Tea recipe is the definition of comfort. It's warm and creamy with a hint of cinnamon. Not only is it delicious, but it's also quick and easy to make.
You are going to love this comforting drink. A sip is like a hug in a mug ... especially when paired with a few cookies and a great book!
Ingredients
This Cinnamon Tea with milk uses basic ingredients ... you probably already have everything in your pantry! Here's what you'll need:
- Cinnamon - Whole cinnamon sticks infuse this tasty tea with its signature warm flavor. In a pinch, you can use ground cinnamon, but sticks work best.
- Black Tea - A strong black tea, like English breakfast or earl grey, works great for this recipe. You can certainly experiment with green or herbal tea though. Rooibos tea would also be delish if you'd prefer a spicier flavor.
- Milk - I used 2% milk when testing this recipe. For an extra creamy drink, use whole milk. Non-dairy / vegan milks, like soy, almond, coconut, or oat milk, would also work great.
- Sweetener - This recipe calls for maple syrup, but honey works well, too.
- Vanilla - A little vanilla extract adds another layer of flavor to this tea.
You'll Also Need
In addition to the ingredients above, you'll also need a small saucepan with a lid to prepare the tea.

How to Make Cinnamon Milk Tea

- Bring water and cinnamon sticks to a boil in a small saucepan.
- Add tea bags to water mixture. Cover the pot, then let the tea steep for seven minutes.
- Stir in maple syrup and vanilla extract.
- Mix in milk. While the tea steeps, heat the milk in your microwave or in another saucepan. Then, when the tea is ready, stir in the hot milk.

Cinnamon Tea Variations
This Cinnamon Stick Tea recipe is super simple to customize! Here are some easy ideas to inspire you:
- Tea - The recipe calls for black tea, but you can use green or herbal teas, too. Spicy rooibos tea would also be delicious.
- Honey - Don't have maple syrup? Swap in honey instead.
- Sweeter / Less Sweet - This tea is mildly sweet. If you prefer a sweeter drink, simply add more maple syrup. For a less sweet drink, cut down on the maple syrup or leave it out altogether.
- Sugar Free - A few readers have made this recipe using sugar alternatives, like Stevia, with great results.
- Spicier - Like your tea a little spicy? Add a few slices of fresh ginger, or other spices like cardamom, nutmeg, and cloves, while you steep the tea.
- Latte - Turn this simple drink into a latte by frothing the milk before you add it to the tea.

Thanks for sharing! Does one milk work better than the other?
You're welcome, Suzanne! I would recommend whole milk (or 2%) for the creamiest results, or if you prefer plant based, soy, coconut, or oat milk would all work great. Hope you enjoy the recipe! 🙂
This looks so good! What a great way to enjoy a warm drink without caffeine!
Thanks, Vanessa! 🙂
This is quite tasty, even my 12 year old said he could drink this every morning. I'm wondering how calories were calculated. When I input it into my fitness pal, it comes up at 400 calories each foe two servings. I did use honey instead of Maple syrup but that was the only change.
Hi Melissa! I'm so glad you and your son enjoyed the recipe! As far as calories go, it's an estimate and will really depend on the exact ingredients you use (such has type of milk, honey vs. maple syrup, even different brands vary in calories). When I recalculated this I actually came up with fewer calories than noted in the recipe card (it's possible I originally calculated it with whole milk, I don't remember). Here's a calorie breakdown though: 2 cups black tea = 4 calories 1.5 cups 2% milk = 186 calories 3 teaspoons maple syrup = 51 calories… Read more »
Just made this, so good! I did have to alter mine a bit just because I didn't realise you could reuse cinnamon sticks (until halfway through this recipe, so lucky I didn't throw mine out) and I only had 3 (need some for another recipe) so I only used 1 stick and 2 tea bags. I did have to adjust the sweetness to my taste but honestly this really does taste like cup of cuddles you would drink while reading book you would drink under a comfy blanket. Would make again 4 just because I have had sweet milk teas… Read more »
I'm so glad you enjoyed the recipe, Beth! 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I can't wait to try it! Usually my goto lattes are matcha vanilla latte and Irish Cream Tea latte. Definitely adding this one to my list!
You're welcome ... hope you enjoy it! I love a matcha latte, too 🙂

Hello, I don't have tea bags, just loose leaf black tea. Do you know roughly how much to use for this recipe? Thank you!
I've only made this recipe with tea bags, but I'd suggest using 3 tablespoons loose tea. Let me know how it turns out!
I will! Thank you!
I'm now addicted to this tea. I've had it every day for a week. I even bought decaf tea bags so I can have it later in the day.
No maple syrup here, so I use 4 drops of liquid sucralose instead. Great recipe.
If you have to be addicted to something, at least it's tea! 😉 So happy to hear you're loving the recipe, Karen!
