Combine brown sugar with ¼ cup water in a medium heavy bottom pot.
Heat over medium heat; cook until hot and sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently.
Add berries and a pinch of salt; simmer, stirring often, until berries are tender and have released their juices (about 7 to 10 minutes).
Serve compote warm or chilled. Enjoy!
Notes
You can make this sauce with pretty much any berry, such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Choose your favorite combination.
