Do you have an Instagram account? I used to be obsessed with updating my personal account every day, often multiple times, with shots of San Francisco, New York, and my travels.
Once I started my blog's Instagram account though, I got very lazy about posting to my personal account.
What can I say, other than I can't keep up with all these social media accounts?!?
Obviously, I needed to get back on the Instagram ball. Last week, as I was scrolling through my photos for inspiration, I decided to print a few NYC shots and mount them on mini canvases.
DIY Canvas Mounted Photos
I've wanted to make my own DIY Canvas Mounted Instagram Photos for a while, and this fun Instagram craft idea is one of these rare projects that exceeded all of my expectations!
They turned out so cool, and the petite size is perfect for showing off a mini photo collection.
These DIY Canvas Mounted Instagram Photos are super easy to assemble and literally take minutes to make. I can't wait to make more.
Wouldn't it be fun to have a whole wall covered in these mini prints? I'm already planning that for my next apartment!
Although I used mini canvases, this project would work just as well for larger canvas sizes. Just make sure your canvas is smaller than your print.
This Instagram craft idea is perfect for kids, and if you're looking for a unique Mother's Day gift, this is it!
How to Attach Photos to Canvas
Here's what you'll need to make your own Canvas Mounted Instagrams:
- your favorite Instagram photos (or any photo)
- color printer
- printer paper
- scissors
- 3" x 3" mini canvas panels (or a canvas that's the same size as your photo)
- Mod Podge
- foam paint brush
- Scotch removeable mounting squares
- magnets
You'll start by printing out your Instagrams.
To do this, I saved my Instagrams to my desktop, then dragged one into a Word document. Next, I resized the photo to 3" x 3" (the size of my canvas), using the document rulers as a guide.
After resizing the photo, I copied and pasted it into the document 5 times. Then I selected each image and changed it to one of the other 5 photos I wanted to use. If you do it this way, you only have to resize your photo once.
Once you've added all of your photos to the Word file, print them on regular printer paper. Cut out the photos with the scissors.
Set the photos aside. Use the foam brush to dab a light coat of Mod Podge over the top of a canvas. Place one of the Instagrams onto the canvas. Smooth out any air bubbles and make sure the print is evenly adhered to the canvas.
Set aside the canvas to dry and repeat this process with the remaining photos.
Once the photos are dry, cover the entire canvas with a light coat of Mod Podge. Set aside to dry and repeat with the remaining canvases.
Flip the canvases over and attach mounting squares or magnets to each corner.
That's all there is to this easy Instagram craft idea!
It took me about 30 minutes to make eight canvases. It really doesn't get much easier!
I love the black edges of the canvases!
It works so well with my Instagrams, which I tend to edit to have a vignette.
If your photos are lighter and brighter than mine, white canvases would also work.
I created a few DIY Canvas Mounted Instagram Photos for my sister, too, using images from her recent trip to New York instead of Instagram pics.
Since I wasn't sure where she'd hang the canvases, I attached magnets to the back so she can hang them on her fridge.
They will make the perfect Mother's Day present ... cross your fingers that she doesn't see this!
If you're anything like me, you have a lot of photos languishing on your camera phone.
This is the perfect project to showcase your favorite photos, whether they are Instagrams or not!
Are you an Instagram lover, too?
LOVE!!
My daughter’s senior pictures were all sooo good, but good larger prints - canvas or otherwise - are awfully pricey. And I’m pretty sure a wall of forty frames might be too much. ;). I thought I’d never get to see most of them on my walls!
I cannot wait to do this project! I’m going to go crazy. I’m going to do multiple copies to have some for her and her boyfriend and both grandmothers.
Hmmm, I might need to enlist some help!
Thanks!
Hi, Lanna! This makes me so happy to hear. 🙂 I hope you have a great time with the project ... they are so fun to make and to give as gifts!
Love! Love! Love! Did I mention I love this idea?
Ha ha ... thank you so much, Sylvette!
I love this!! Thanks for sharing! I know what you mean about keeping up with all the social media accounts, seams to get harder and harder to maintain. Great project, thank you!
AHHH! I LOVE this idea. I take a bazillion IG pics of my children and have wanted to do something like this for so long. Little square frames are expensive! I just found my new summer project!
This is such a great idea! Thank you for sharing Ginnie. 🙂
