Give your lamps a quick makeover with paint, like I did with these DIY Gold Finials!

Have you ever had something on your to do list that you never quite got around to doing? I have a few of those items on my list, and yesterday I finally check one off!
When I was unpacking my current apartment, I was excited to come across the box with my favorite pair of lamps. So excited, that when I was screwing the finial on one of the lamps it fell out of my fingers and hit the floor.
The outer layer of the finial cracked and part broke off. Now, I was never the biggest fan of those finials, so I figured I'd do a quick update and fix them up somehow. Of course, they sat there for over a year before I finally got around to doing anything with them!
These DIY gold finials really were a quick update, and now I'm kicking myself that I didn't get around to this project sooner!
You can see the cracked finial in the picture above. Thankfully, there was another layer under the shiny cracked shell.
This was one of my quickest apartment updates yet! I took my hammer and finished the job, removing the rest of the outer shell. Then, I gave the uncracked finial a good whack with the hammer and removed the shell from that one, too. All that whacking was really therapeutic!
With just a few coats of my favorite gold craft paint, my DIY gold finials were as good as new!
Here's a before and after:
I'm really happy with how this turned out, and I love how to gold coordinates with my DIY suede tassel.
Eventually, I'd like to replace these finials with something a little more unique, but for now, I'm glad I got my butt in gear and made this update!
Have you made any updates to your home lately?
I just stumbled across your site as I was looking for DIY finials. I just found these exact lamps! Mine are more of a cream color with yellow leaves. Did you paint yours or did you find them in the white color? Mine are from the early 60's, heavy ceramic.
Hi, Mary! My lamps are newer. I want to say I bought them new about 10 years ago, and they were always white. Maybe they were modeled after those vintage lamps! 🙂
Great touch! Pinned. Hugs! Lou Lou Girls
What would we do without paint? It's like magic, it fixes everything. 🙂
I love this little blue tassel and the gold finials! Just a touch of color totally updates the lamp! Thanks for sharing at Show-Licious Craft & Recipe Party!

I was just about to make a comment about how well it coordinates! Very nice job!
