Take care of your skin with my easy tips for washing your face, plus I'm sharing my favorite oily skin remedies to help you make the most of your skin!
I've had oily skin for as long as I can remember, and I didn't always love it. The teen years were hard ... ha ha!
My skin still drives me crazy occasionally, but I keep telling myself that I'll have fewer wrinkles when I'm older, and that always cheers me up!
Oily skin can be especially challenging in summer when the heat and humidity send my skin's oil production into overdrive. Thankfully over the years, and through lots of product experimentation, I've figured out what works best for my skin.
If you're in the same skin care boat as I am, keep reading for my favorite face washing tips, plus some easy oily skin remedies.
Tips for Washing Your Face
I love natural looking makeup, and good skin care is the first step to getting a trendy, no-makeup look. My easy tips for washing your face will get you started!
Use a Gentle Cleanser Morning and Night
If you have oily skin, you know how tempting it can be to use harsh products, like drying cleansers, rough scrubs, and astringent pads. Products that strip your face are so bad for your skin, and leave you with rough, patchy skin.
What's worse, these products can actually cause your skin to produce more oil. Basically the exact opposite of what we want, right?
The best thing you can do for oily skin (or any skin type!) is to use a gentle cleanser morning and night. Choose a cleanser that cleans your skin thoroughly without making it feel dry or tight, and avoid washing your face too much (twice a day is usually enough).
Lately, I've been loving Olay Daily Facials Daily Clean 4-in-1 Water Activated Cleansing Cloths! My mom used Olay moisturizer daily ... I can still picture her applying it in our bathroom mirror! Olay has been a brand I've always trusted and used myself.
Olay Daily Facials are different than makeup wipes I've used that simply remove makeup from the skin's surface. Unlike those wipes, Olay Daily Facials cloths are specifically textured to remove dirt, oil, and makeup two times better than basic cleansing, all while leaving your skin feeling clean, fresh, and moisturized.
It's all about getting a whole clean! Olay Daily Facials have a 4-in-1 formula with the cleansing power of a makeup remover scrub, toner, mask, and cleanser. You'll get a more complete clean than you would with micellar water, makeup remover wipes, and liquid cleansers. Plus, there's no need for multiple cleansers or products to get the job done, which I love!
These water-activated cloths are so easy to use. But the best part is that they hydrate with Olay conditioners and gently exfoliate my skin, leaving it feeling cleaner, smoother, and healthier ... perfect for summer months when I sometimes go without makeup!
To use Olay Daily Facials, simply wet a cloth with water and rub to create a wonderful foaming lather. Use the cloth to cleanse your skin (even around the eyes ... they're great for removing mascara), then rinse with water. When you're done, simply toss the cloth.
Olay Daily Facials are perfect for oily skin like mine yet they are great for all skin types, plus the nourishing, soap-free formula is dermatologist-tested.

Oily Skin Remedies
When I was younger, I was obsessed with getting rid of my oily skin. It drove me crazy, and I tried all sorts of things from harsh cleansers to heavy makeup to control it.
It's simply not possible to change your skin type though. If only ... ha!
But you can take better control of oily skin. Over the years, I've learned some easy oily skin remedies that have helped me reduce excess oil and make the most of my skin.
Make Sure to Moisturize
Now that you know how to cleanse your skin with a gentle cleaner like Olay Daily Facials, it's important to moisturize.
It took me a long time to embrace moisturizer, but it has made a big difference for my skin. The right moisturizer will balance your skin, make it feel smooth and soft, and keep it from producing excess oil.
The key is to choose a light moisturizer and to apply it sparingly. A drop is usually enough for my oily t-zone, and I'll apply a little extra on my cheeks.
I like to apply moisturizer at night, and for daytime, I use an oil free sunblock as my moisturizer.
Adapt Your Skin Care with the Seasons
Oily skin is generally worse in summer, especially in hot humid conditions.
So keep in mind that you can probably use a lighter moisturizer in summer, and you may need to add other products, such as blemish creams, into your routine more frequently.
Also, be sure to switch out pillowcases and towels frequently, especially in summer. Oils from your face can build up on them which leads to breakouts.
Making Makeup Last
One of the trickiest things about oily skin is getting makeup to last, especially in summer.
Try my easy oily skin remedies to make your makeup last all day:
- After cleansing and applying moisturizer (or sunblock), apply an oil-controlling primer all over your face. The primer will help your makeup stick.
- When selecting makeup, choose light, oil-free formulas (such as powders and water-based liquids; avoid oil-based creams) and apply with restraint. Heavy makeup will just cake and, or melt ... less is more.
- After applying foundation and concealer, finish with a light dusting of translucent powder to set your makeup.
- If your skin is especially oily, or it's going to be a long day, use a setting spray.
- Remove shine from your face throughout the day with oil blotting papers.
I hope these tips for washing your face and my easy oily skin remedies help you embrace your skin this summer!
