    Can you believe that summer is almost over? I'm kind of in denial, although I won't mind the cooler weather ... summer in Texas is hot!

    Have you ever had a green smoothie before? Personally, I love them! They're the perfect way to enjoy lots of fruits, veggies, and other nutrient packed ingredients (like yogurt, grains, and nuts) in one delicious drink.

    My Strawberry Banana Spinach Smoothie recipe is super simple to make and so tasty. I think it's the best green smoothie recipe for beginners, too, since the spinach flavor is very mild. It may be green, but it really does taste like a classic strawberry banana smoothie ... with a little extra nutritional oomph!

    This green smoothie starts with a nutritious base of creamy yogurt. I love using yogurt in my smoothies, because nutrition is more than counting calories, it's making each calorie count. And dairy does it!

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup yogurt (I used nonfat, but any kind will work.)
    • 2 tablespoons almond butter
    • 1 cup chopped strawberries
    • 1 small banana, sliced
    • 2 cups lightly packed spinach, roughly chopped

    Instructions

    • Layer ingredients in a blender in this order: yogurt, almond butter, strawberries, banana, and spinach.
    • Blend until smooth, stopping to stir and/or scrape down sides of the blender as needed.
    • Serve smoothie immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to drink. Enjoy!

    Notes

    Between the strawberries, banana, and almond butter, I found this smoothie to be sweet enough without any additional sweeteners. If you'd like to make it a little sweeter though, try adding a teaspoon or two of honey or maple syrup.
