Ingredients
This easy recipe uses simple, wholesome ingredients! Here's what you'll need:
- Oats - You'll use old fashioned rolled oats for this recipe. Do not substitute quick cooking oats or steel cut oats.
- Quinoa - You'll mix uncooked quinoa into the oats. It adds protein, and it has a wonderful crispy texture once it's baked!
- Chocolate - Use your favorite dark chocolate (I like Lindt).
- Cherries - Dried cherries give the granola a tasty sweet-tart flavor, and they add a chewy texture.
- Other Ingredients - To coat the oats, you'll use a combination of olive oil, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
This recipe is naturally vegetarian and nut free. Oats are naturally gluten free, however there is a risk of cross contamination, so use GF oats if you have an allergy. For a vegan and dairy free option, make sure to use vegan chocolate.

The Oscar Noms Party Menu
A group of my blogging friends are joining me today to share recipes inspired by Oscar-nominated movies. My granola was inspired by Wild, which stars Reese Witherspoon and is based on the real life story of Cheryl Strayed, who goes into a tailspin following her mother's death. She makes a rash decision to hike the epic Pacific Crest Trail, and the movie follows her hike.
In one of the first scenes, Strayed realizes that she purchased the wrong gas for her stove and can't cook any of the dehydrated meals she packed. So her first meals consist of cold gruel and handfuls of granola. Not too appetizing, but I like to think that if I was going for a long hike, I'd have packed this delicious recipe instead!
