The minute the weather starts to cool off, my hands and body start to dry out. It's like clockwork ... very annoying clockwork.

I love experimenting with my own DIY beauty products, especially Sugar Scrubs. They're so simple to create, and if you choose the right ingredients, they're also very soothing for dry skin.

This Lemon Lavender Sugar Scrub recipe is a favorite! It's so quick and easy to make, and the sugar smooths out flaky skin, while the coconut oil leaves your hands soft and silky.

And then there's the amazing lemon lavender scent ... you are going to love this relaxing, yet energizing fragrance!

Make a batch for yourself, plus some for a friend. It would be a truly thoughtful DIY gift for your girlfriends (or any friend, even my husband likes the scent!) this holiday season, and you can put together a bunch of jars in minutes. I've even created a free printable label for you to use!

Ready to get started? You'll find all the details below, so keep scrolling!

    Ingredients

Want to make your own DIY scrub? Here's what you'll need:

    • Sugar - This kitchen staple forms the basis of the scrub. It adds just enough texture to exfoliate your skin without irritating it. I used cane sugar this time, but granulated sugar works great, too.
    • Coconut Oil - The sugar gets combined with coconut oil. This nourishing oil makes the finished scrub super moisturizing.
    • Essential Oils - You'll use a combination of lemon and lavender essential oils. Together, they create a calming, yet uplifting, scent that you're sure to love!
    • Optional - If you'd like to add an extra special touch, use your food processor to pulse the sugar together with dried lavender buds and / or lemon zest before mixing it with the other ingredients.

    You'll Also Need

You'll also need a small bowl and a spoon to mix everything together, as well as a jar (or another airtight container) to store it in. A mason jar works great for this. If you're planning on giving the scrub as a gift, these pretty quilted jars or these cute jam jars (like I used) would be perfect ... especially if you pair them with my printable label (get it below)!

How to Make Lemon Lavender Sugar Scrub

This homemade scrub recipe couldn't be easier to make! You'll find a detailed recipe card below with proportions, however it's as simple as mixing together the sugar, coconut oil, and essentials oils in a small bowl. Once everything is well combined, you're done!

If your coconut oil is solid, like mine was, simply microwave the it for about 20 seconds before you stir it into the sugar. This will soften the oil, making it easier to mix everything together.

And that's all there is to it! Store the finished Lemon Lavender Sugar Scrub in a small jar and keep it in your shower or next to your sink.

Keep scrolling to the end of this article for detailed and printable instructions!

    How to Use the Scrub

To use the Lavender Lemon Scrub, place a little on your fingertips or in the palm of your hand. Then gently smooth the scrub over your lips, hands, feet, or body, rubbing gently for a few minutes.

Wash the scrub off with warm water, then blot your skin dry. Gently massage any coconut oil into your skin. It should sink in completely after a minute or two.

If your hands are especially dry, seal in the moisture with a rich lotion. This thick, creamy hand lotion is my favorite! It's super nourishing and luxurious, and it actually heals dry skin.

Gift Idea + Free Printable Label

To package the Lavender Scrub for gift giving, I wrapped jute twine a few times around the jar's neck and added a handwritten label to the top.

You can keep things even easier though by using my free printable label! To access the label, just click here to download the printable PDF (or anywhere on the image below).

Once you've downloaded the PDF, print the labels on card stock. Then cut it out, punch a hole in top, and attach the label to the jar with a ribbon.
