    Variations

Feel like getting creative? This bean salsa is easy to customize according to your taste or to what's in your pantry. Here are a few ideas to try:

    • Beans - Substitute other firm beans, like pintos, if needed. You could even use black eyed peas to turn this into Cowboy Caviar!
    • Roasted Corn - Swap out the fresh or frozen corn, for roasted corn.
    • Tomatoes - Use the tastiest tomatoes you can find. Everything from romas to heirloom will work. If you're not making this recipe in summer, use grape tomatoes, which typically taste great year round.
    • More / Less Spicy - To keep the heat under control, make sure to remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeño. You can also add less (or more) to taste. Other peppers, such as habanero, serrano, or canned roasted chiles, may also be used. If you can't take the heat at all, feel free to add a sweet bell pepper instead.
    • Avocado - This dip is delicious made with fresh avocado! Just be sure to add it right before serving so it doesn't turn brown.
    • Fruit - Like your salsa a little sweet? Stir in some diced mango or pineapple!
