This Bold Summer Makeup Tutorial is the perfect way to shake up your morning routine!
Do you have a good morning routine?
There's nothing better than starting the day off on the right foot. My morning routine definitely sets the tone for the whole day.
I think we could all use a little more confidence during our days, and one thing that makes me feel confidently bold is taking time for myself ... even it's just a few minutes in the morning putting on makeup, eliminating bad breath with LISTERINE Antiseptic, or eating a healthy breakfast.
Makeup is a big part of my morning routine, and I love experimenting with fun colors, especially at this time of year! So today, I'm sharing a fun, bold summer makeup tutorial that's all about bright colors, plus a few tips from my morning routine!
Bold Summer Makeup Tutorial
How to Choose Colors
This bold summer makeup tutorial works for all skin tones, even if you're not totally pale like me. A little color goes a long way on my fair skin, but a good rule of thumb is the deeper your skin tone, the darker and bolder the colors you can use.
Start with a Good Base
Summer is the perfect time to break the rules with your makeup! It's hot out, and everything is more relaxed. Why not have a little fun with your look?
Before you get started, apply foundation, concealer, and powder as you normally would. I also did my eyebrows and applied a little bronzer to wake up my pale skin.
Apply Blush
Apply a bright blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend outward on your cheekbones. I love a vibrant pink!
This Burt's Bees Shy Pink is a good option.
Bold Blue Eye Makeup
The eyes are next!
For this bold summer makeup tutorial, I chose a pretty blue eye shadow palette. I love these vibrant colors, and they're actually really flattering with my blue eyes and pale skin.
Don't have blue eyes? If you want to experiment with different colors, try: purples or greens for brown eyes; pinks, purples, or light greens for green eyes; and pink or lavender for hazel eyes.
Look for shades that have similar undertones (warm or cool) as your skin, then play around with colors until you find something you like.
To replicate this look (no matter what colors you're using), you'll need a light color, a dark color, and a highlighting color.
Before applying eye shadow, I added a touch of black eyeliner along my upper lash line and the lower corner of my eyes. A little eyeliner will help your eyes pop.
Then, apply the light color all over your lids and up to your crease. I used a pale blue.
Apply the dark shade to the crease, blending well with the lighter color. A slanted brush works really well for this.
I used a dark blue for this step.
Next, apply the highlighting color to your brow bone, blending where it meets to other colors. The shade I used was a sheer white.
Go easy on highlighter. It should look subtle, not like you're heading to the disco.
You can always add more.
Finishing Touches
To finish up this bold summer makeup look, you can go over the eyeliner with a deep black shadow (or other coordinating color) to make your eyes pop even more, if you wish. Then, add a couple coats of your favorite mascara.
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Lengthening Mascara is my absolute fave ... it makes the eyes pop!
Since there was so much color on my eyes and cheeks, I stuck to sheer lip gloss for my lips.
Wasn't that easy? I love how bright and cheery it turned out!

My Morning Routine
Makeup is an important part of my routine, but it's only one part! Here's how I spend the rest of my A.M. hours.
I've been working from home a lot lately, so I like to eat breakfast (usually overnight oats or a breakfast sandwich), do a little work, exercise, and then shower and get ready.
On days, when I'm heading out earlier, I'll shower and get ready first, then eat breakfast, and exercise at night.
Either way, I never skip makeup. It makes me feel my best and boldest, even if it's just a little mascara and lip gloss.
Another think I never skip is brushing my teeth.
Have you ever left home without brushing your teeth? It's the worst!
Unfortunately, brushing only gets 75% of your mouth, which is why I love LISTERINE Antiseptic. It's get virtually 100% of your mouth and kills 99.9% of bad breath.
One thing I definitely don't want to worry about during my day is bad breath! So I swish with mouthwash for 30 seconds after brushing every day, and I have the confidence to face the day!
My favorite way to save time during my morning routine is by laying out my outfit for the next day before going to bed.
I hate to be stressed in the morning, and there is nothing worse than staring into the closet and finding nothing to wear ... know what I mean?
I even pick out the jewelry and accessories that I plan to wear. It makes getting ready in the morning so quick and simple!
These are a couple of outfits I've been wearing nonstop this summer. Anything with stripes, fun colors, or cute patterns make me feel bolder and more ready to take on the day!
Another way I save time in the morning is by only washing my hair every two or three days. It's better for my hair, and styling only takes 5 minutes on days I don't wash it.
Before going to bed, I gather my hair in a hair tie on top of my head (like below). It adds a little bend to my hair the next day ... perfect for a swingy pony tail!
After removing the hair tie, I style my hair (adding a little dry shampoo if it's oily) however I like. If my bangs look a little wonky, I just flat iron them. So simple!
