The holidays are here, and that means lots of parties and get togethers. With all the pictures that get taken, I always put a little extra effort into my makeup.
With a busy holiday schedule, my makeup has to look great and last all night. There is nothing worse than looking in the bathroom mirror midway through the night and noticing that your makeup has migrated!
It also has to be easy.
Today, I'm sharing an easy and pretty tutorial for Classic Holiday Makeup Routine with a pop of color. Keep reading for the step-by-step tutorial!
Classic Holiday Makeup Routine
This classic holiday makeup is pretty and simple to create.
It's all about beautiful, defined eyes and bright, colorful lips.
Once I had my makeup on, I couldn't resist getting in the holiday spirit and playing around with some photo booth props that I made.
I can't wait to use these on New Years Eve!
To get this classic holiday makeup with a pop of color, I picked up my favorite NEUTROGENA cosmetics.
I love the pretty shades these products come in, plus they help keep my skin healthy during this busy time of year (win win).
Begin with a Great Base
Start by applying foundation, concealer, and powder to your skin as you normally would.
Next, I used Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blush in Pure on the apples of my cheeks and cheekbones.
This light-weight blush is enriched with botanical conditioners that are designed to blend evenly. I love the natural looking, gorgeous glow I got from this pretty shade!
Eyes Are Next
Next, apply eyeliner close to your lash line and along your water line.
I used black because I really wanted my eyes to stand out, but brown would look great, too.
Eye shadow is next. I used Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Eye Shadow + Built-In Primer in Soft Taupe. This eye shadow has serious staying power—up to 12 hours of rich, nourishing color—making it perfect for the holidays!
Here's how to apply it:
- Start by applying the lightest color all over your lid from eye lashes to eyebrows.
- Then, apply the second lightest shade from your lashes to your brown bone. Blend the area where the two colors meet with your fingers or a makeup brush.
- Next, apply the second darkest color in a v-shape at the outer corner of your eye. A makeup brush with a slanted tip is ideal for this. Blend the edges well.
- Finally, I used the small end of the applicator that came with the palette to apply the darkest color along my upper lash line (over the eye liner). This emphasizes your eyes and helps the liner stay put all night.
Tip: this eye tutorial will work with any Neutrogena eye shadow palette. Just use the shades—from lightest to darkest—as recommended above.
Apply a couple coats of mascara, and your eyes are done!
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara is my fave ... it really makes the eyes pop.
Finish with Your Lips
It's time for that pop of color on your lips!
I used a Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Bright Berry. I love these Color Sticks! They are so easy to apply, plus they're made with mango and shea butter, which continuously condition your lips so they are softer and smoother in just 3 days. Perfect for dry winter days, right?
The lips are so easy. Just outline them and then fill them in with the Color Stick. I love the vibrant, but totally wearable shade I chose!
Tip: worried about getting lipstick on your teeth? After applying the Color Stick, stick a finger in your mouth, then purse your lips around it and pull it out of your mouth. Your finger will catch any excess color that might have ended up on your teeth.
That's all there is to it!
This classic holiday makeup with a pop of color is ready to debut at your next big event.
I created this classic holiday makeup tutorial with the Christmas and New Year's Eve in mind, but it would be perfect for any fun night out.
Valentine's Day is just around the corner after all!
