I don't know about you, but I love seeing homes decorated for Christmas. So I'm super excited to share my modern holiday home tour with you today.
My husband and I will be traveling for a couple weeks at the end of the month. So I kept things very simple this year, sticking mainly to my living room. I didn't do a ton of decorating by it's still fun and festive!
Over to summer I moved to a new place, and my new apartment is bright and modern. So my holiday decor followed suit (with a few vintage and quirky touches thrown in, too).
Are you ready to check out my modern Christmas home tour? Let's get started ... this fun tour is filled with tons of homemade Christmas decorations, plus lots of other Christmas decorating ideas you can copy!
Modern Christmas Home Tour
I really wanted to make a new wreath this year, but I just didn't have time. So I hung my tried-and-true sparkly gold wreath on the door, and called it a day ... ha!
This wreath is a few years old now, and I first used it to create a piece of holiday chalkboard art in my rustic glam holiday dining room.
Just inside the door, I have a small table. Above it hangs a Merry Christmas cross-stitch piece that my mom made many (many) years ago. I love it so much, and it doesn't feel like Christmas if it's not hanging somewhere.
Below the cross-stitch is my gold star marquee light, which I also love.
I like to keep this light out all year, but it's especially fun at Christmas time.
My husband and I went to tree decorating event at Michaels and made those mini trees that are displayed in front of the star. They're kind of goofy, and will probably get a makeover next year, but I couldn't resist putting them out.
I'm still amazed that I convinced Joel to go with me, although he is pretty crafty. And I actually think his tree turned out better than mine did!
Okay, we're taking this modern Christmas home tour into the living room!
This room gets a ton of light. The walls were a peachy tan color (yuck) when we rented the apartment, but we painted them white before moving in.
It looks so much better and brighter (it contrasts with the polished concrete floors perfectly, too), but I'm already dreading the thought of having to repaint them when we move out. 🙁
I love how light and cozy this room is though, especially with all the modern Christmas décor touches!
There is a lot of blue in my living room, so I went with a blue, gold, and white theme this year. It feels fun and different, but still Christmas-y.
I was so excited to haul out my faux fur throw and pillows. The weather has finally (finally!) cooled off a bit in Dallas, and I basically live under that throw on chilly nights. It is THE BEST!
It looks great paired with my blue and white ikat pillows and a polka dot pillow I got last holiday season.
Check out my cozy holiday decor post for more ideas on how to style the fur throw and polka dot pillow.
Do you remember those DIY Mini Christmas Trees I made a couple weeks ago?
They look so cute on one of my acrylic side tables (which are perfect for small apartments and spaces, btw).
I paired them with another tree that I already had. This was such a fun DIY Christmas project!
Here's a look at the whole couch.
So cozy and cute, right?
I hung my DIY gold glitter Fa La La banner on my New York painting, and I love how it looks there.
This banner was another project I made for my rustic glam holiday dining room a few years ago.
That first year, it hung over a holiday sweets table, but since then it's moved around.
I've displayed it on my TV stand and even hung it on my tree one year ... I love a versatile Christmas craft!
I kept things simple on my coffee table, too.
Those birds were a thrift store find from years ago that I painted white. They're a favorite and have been displayed everywhere from bookshelves to coffee tables. I usually keep them out year round, although I especially love them during the holidays.
The pine cones are from a DIY Christmas Centerpiece I created a few years ago. I painted the tips white, and I move them around every year, too.
They look so pretty in a white vase this year, especially when paired with a flameless candle on top of a little faux snow in a simple hurricane vase.
And here's my tree!
I got a new fake tree this year, and I love it! My old tree was four feet tall (it was the only tree that would fit in my NYC apartment), and I've been itching to get a larger one for years.
This one is 7.5 feet tall, but it's still skinny enough to fit an apartment comfortably ... love it.
I had the hardest time getting a good picture though. All that bright light completely washed out my tree.
Like I mentioned earlier, this modern Christmas home tour has a blue, gold, and white theme. I used mostly balls to decorate the tree, but I added a few favorites from my ornament collection that fit the theme, too.
Remember that DIY Origami Lucky Star Garland is made a few years ago?
It's still holding up and added a sweet touch to the tree.
I also added my DIY Vintage Christmas Ornaments that I made last month.
Each one is unique.
Isn't that snowman cute?
l made a mini Christmas village a fews years back, and it's still one of my fave Christmas crafts ever!
Rather than display the houses and buildings under my tree or somewhere else, this year, I nestled them right in my tree!
I keep meaning to share a tutorial for this village ... they were so fun to make. Next year, I promise!
There's another home from my village in the tree below.
I don't have any presents under the tree yet, but my Staffordshire dog is standing guard anyway.
My husband got him for me last Christmas, and he's the closest thing I have to a pet. Ha!
Here's a look at the whole room. Told you it was bright!
You can't really see them, but that's my TV stand on the right and my blue chair in the bottom corner.
I hope you enjoyed my modern Christmas home tour!
