It's party season, and I'm all about delicious appetizers. What is it about appetizers that's so fun? I'm not sure, but I could make a meal out of them (party or not)!
When you're planning a party, it's tempting to go all out with elaborate recipes. Do yourself a favor though and keep things simple. You'll have more fun at the party, and your guests will never be the wiser.
Instead of complicated appetizers, I prefer easy recipes with unique flavors and unexpected combinations for my get togethers, like these Blue Cheese Stuffed Dates!
Dried dates are so delicious. They have a chewy texture and sweet taste with a hint of caramel, but there's no sugar added. Pair them with blue cheese, and you have that whole salty sweet thing going on. Yum!
These stuffed dates with blue cheese are the easiest of party appetizers, yet they're so tasty and will definitely impress your guests. The best part though? Pair these blue cheese dates with a bottle of wine or include them on a cheese plate, and you'll be ready to entertain in under 30 minutes!

Ingredients
I almost hesitate to call this a recipe, since you only need two ingredients for these cheese stuffed dates:
- Blue Cheese - Feel free to use your favorite kind of blue cheese. A creamy Gorgonzola would be be delicious as would a stronger, sharper blue. If you want to go crazy, you could even stuff these dates with goat cheese instead.
- Dried Dates - As far as the dates go, I recommend using Deglet Noor dates or Medjool dates. Look for them in your grocer's produce section, bulk foods, or with other dried fruit. If you can, buy them from a bin instead of prepackaged. That way you can examine them and pick the best ones.
This recipe is naturally vegetarian, gluten free, and nut free!
How to Make Stuffed Dates with Blue Cheese
These dates stuffed with blue cheese couldn't be easier to make, and they're the perfect vegetarian party appetizer, as far as I'm concerned! You'll find a detailed recipe card below, but here's a quick overview of the process:
- Prep dates. To make this stuffed dates recipe, you'll start by slicing the dates from end to end (just through the top layer, not all the way through). If your dates have pits, remove them.
- Add cheese. Then, you'll cut the blue cheese into small slices and insert them into the dates. I like to smoosh the cheese down a bit to fill the dates' cavities. And that is really all there is to making this yummy stuffed dates appetizer!
Serve your Blue Cheese Stuffed Dates on a pretty platter (I used my marble cake stand) for a simple, yet elegant appetizer. And you may want to double the recipe, because your guests won't be able to stop at one!
Storage
Storage leftover dates in an airtight container in your refrigerator, where they will stay fresh for two to three days.

What is your favorite easy vegetarian party appetizer?

How far ahead can these be made then refrigerated? Or is it best to make them just before serving? Thanks!
Hi, Jane! You can make them up to two days (possibly three) before serving. Any further in advance, and I think the cheese will start to dry out. Hope that helps! 🙂
This looks so good and I intend to try it very soon!
Thanks, Paula! They're so easy to make, too!
