If you're anything like me, you start to get a little excited at this time of year. It's Academy Award season!
My husband and I love going to the movies. Joel actually works in the entertainment industry, so we have extra motivation to see as many of the nominated films each year as possible.
This year might be a first, because I've already seen all of the nominated best picture films. I almost feel like I need my own award for that one, ha. Now I just need to catch up in all the other categories!

Are you looking for fun Oscar party ideas to go with your Academy Awards ballots?
If you’re hosting an Academy Awards party and would like to give an award to the person who predicts the most winners, then you'll want to assign points for each category. I’d suggest:
- Best Picture = 10 points
- Best Actor / Actress = 5 points
- Everything Else = 2 points
Whoever predicts the most winners or has the most points, wins.
To make your party even more fun, you could also give out awards to your guests. Vote on the best dressed guest, biggest movie buff, and more. These gold award trophies would be the perfect prize!

How to Assemble Your Free Printable 2018 Oscar Ballots for an Awards Party
You can certainly use these Oscar nomination ballots as is. But if you're throwing an Academy Awards party or you really love movies, it's even more fun to assemble the ballots into a fun package.
I've come up with lots of ways to assemble these ballots over the years (check out my 2017, 2016, and 2015 ballots for more ideas). It's all part of the fun! This year I kept the presentation really easy and tied the ballots together with a ribbon. I love how simple, yet festive they look.
Here's what you need to create the same look for your Oscar printable ballots:
- printable Oscar ballots (get the file at the end of the this post)
- cardstock
- self-healing mat
- ruler
- utility knife
- hole punch
- ¾ to 1-inch wide ribbon (I used this black ribbon. Sorry, I can't find the gold dot ribbon online.)
- scissors
Start by downloading the ballot file and printing it on cardstock.
Honestly, I pretty much bring anything like this to FedEx to get printed. My printer drives me nuts. And I love that I can order from FedEx online and pick up in store or just have my order shipped. It's so easy, and the print quality is awesome.
Once the ballots are printed, cut the pages in half using a utility knife and ruler to keep your lines straight. Use a self-healing mat to protect your table.
Use a hole punch to add a hole in the top center of each page.
You can measure the ballots to find the exact center, but I just eye balled it.
Next, cut a piece of ribbon about 8-inches long.
Then, fold it in half.
Pull the two ends through the hole, from the back of the ballots to the front. You should have a loop of ribbon on the back side of the ballot.
Pass the two ends through the loop and pull tight.
Finally, trim the ribbon ends on an angle using your scissors.
That's it ... wasn't that easy?
I used a combination of plain black ribbon and gold dot ribbon, and I love how they look together.
These printable Oscar ballots look so festive don't they? Perfect for your Academy Awards party or just a cozy night watching the show at home!
I like attaching the cards like this, because it keeps everything in order.
No worries about someone losing a card. Hey, it's a party ... you never know!
Make sure to have lots of pens for your guests.

Are you caught up with this year's Oscar nominated films?
Are you gonna make ballots for the 2019 Oscars???
Hi, Michelle! Yes, I will be making a 2019 ballot. The nominations should be announced on January 23, so if you check back the week after that, it should be ready. If you want to get an email notification when it's ready, you could sign up for my weekly newsletter. 🙂 http://eepurl.com/dGz3Qj
This is awesome! thank you so very much.
You're welcome, Shana!
Hi,
I have to bring an appetizer or some sort of food relating to the Oscar nominated movie, The Post. Any clever suggestion? Or any suggestion at all? Thanks
Hi, Cherie! That sounds so fun. You could do mini sandwiches or sliders to reference the sandwiches that Sarah Paulson's character made for the writers. I think hers were turkey, but you could do any flavor (these are delish and easy: https://hellolittlehome.com/brie-and-apple-sandwich/) ... maybe call them Deadline Deli Sandwiches or something more clever ... ha ha. Or you could make something generic like popcorn, and call it something like Freedom of the Press Popcorn or Pentagon Papers Popcorn 🙂 This recipe is a fave: https://hellolittlehome.com/parmesan-pepper-popcorn-movie-night-essentials/ Hope that helps!
What a pretty ballad. Love the ribbon detail!
Thanks, Katherine! The ribbon might be my favorite part! 🙂
Hi Ginny! This is so great. But the PDF you saved is landscape and takes 3 pages instead of 2. I tried correcting it on my end but because it's PDF'd I'm not able to. Can you please save a portrait version for download?
Nevermind, I just read the instructions 🙂 Thanks!
Hi, Sophia! I'm glad you figured it out ... sorry if that was confusing 🙂 Enjoy!
