Ingredients
You need just a few, easy to find ingredients for this recipe:
- Pumpkin - This recipe can be made with canned pumpkin, or you can make homemade Pumpkin Purée (with roasted pumpkin). Avoid pumpkin pie mix / filling, which is already sweetened and spiced. Tips: If you prepare the purée from scratch, save the seeds to make Roasted Pumpkin Seeds!
- Chickpeas - Grab a can of chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans). You'll blend them with the pumpkin to form the dip's base.
- Garlic + Spices - You'll use a combination of fresh garlic and warm spices (smoked paprika, cumin, and pumpkin pie spice) to season the dip.
- Tahini - This recipe also includes tahini, a sesame seed paste that is a classic hummus ingredient. It has a nutty, rich flavor.
- Lemon - A little fresh lemon juice perks up all the other flavors.
- Maple Syrup - This isn't a sweet recipe, but when I was testing it, I found that adding a little maple syrup really enhanced the spices and made the recipe taste more pumpkin-y.
This recipe is naturally vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, nut free, and gluten free, so everyone at your table can enjoy it!

How to Make Savory Pumpkin Hummus Dip
This mouthwatering Fall Hummus couldn't be easier to make! You'll find a detailed recipe card below, but here's a quick overview of the steps:
- Mince garlic. Add the garlic to your food processor, then pulse until it's finely chopped.
- Combine ingredients. Scrape down the side of the bowl, then add the pumpkin purée, chickpeas, tahini, spices, lemon juice, and maple syrup.
- Purée. Turn on your food processor, then blend the ingredients together, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times. You should have a smooth, creamy purée when you're done.
And that's all there is to it, your scrumptious Pumpkin Hummus is ready to eat. You're going to love the warm, spiced pumpkin flavor!

Variations
Here are a few easy substitutions to try:
- Spices - Swap out the pumpkin spice blend for similar spice mixtures, such as apple pie spice or chai spice.
- Sweeter - If you'd prefer a sweeter dip, skip the cumin and smoked paprika, and add extra maple syrup (to taste).
- Spicy - Add a dash of two of cayenne or a canned chipotle pepper.
- Squash - Replace the pumpkin with any puréed winter squash (such as butternut).

Serving Suggestions
Wondering what to eat with Pumpkin Hummus? This creamy dip pairs perfectly with crunchy crackers, homemade Pita Chips, pretzels (I like these Pretzel Crisps), even Crostini. And because it has a savory flavor, it tastes great with fresh veggies (like carrots, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, and bell peppers). Basically, anything you'd eat with hummus goes!
For a party (or special occasion, like Halloween or Thanksgiving), serve it with other autumnal appetizers, like Butternut Squash Crostini, Cranberry Jalapeño Dip, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds, or Mummy Hot Dogs.
Storage
