How to Use the Ballot as a Scorecard
There's nothing more fun than predicting which nominees will win each category ... then seeing if your guesses were actually correct! And both of these ballots have room to keep track of your predictions.
After the Academy Awards begin, you can use the ballot as a scorecard. Keep track of the winners in each category, then assign points for each of the categories you guess correctly. I'd suggest to following points spread:
- Best Picture = 10 points
- Best Actor / Actress = 5 points
- Everything Else = 2 points
If you're throwing a party, then person who ends up with the most points at the end of the ceremony wins! To make things extra exciting, give the winner a small award, like a bottle of wine, movie trivia game or book, or my favorite idea: one of these gold award trophies!

Assembling the Ballots
To use the one page ballot, simply print it out. For the multi-page ballot, you can separate the pages and fasten them together with ribbon. This is easy to do and looks super festive (perfect for a party).
Supplies
- Oscar Ballot Printable (find it at the end of this post)
- cardstock
- self-healing mat
- metal-edge ruler
- utility knife
- hole punch
- ½ to ⅝-inch wide ribbon - Grosgrain or another thicker, fray-resistant ribbon works best for this.
- scissors
Tip: I've used different methods for putting these ballots together over the years. Check out my ideas from 2015 to 2022 here for more inspiration (this layered look is a fave!).
Directions
These printable templates are super easy to assemble! Just follow these step-by-step directions:
- Cut ballots in half. Start by downloaded the ballot PDF (find it at the end of this post), then print it out on cardstock (at FULL SIZE). Using the self-healing mat, ruler, and utility knife, cut the ballots in half. Tips: letter size paper is 11-inches long, so the center is 5.5-inches. For the neatest results, cut two pages at a time.
- Punch holes in pages. Make a hole in the top-center of each page, about halfway between from the edge and the text, using your hole punch. You can eye-ball it or you can measure the ballots to find the exact center. Just make sure that the holes on all the pages line up. Tip: After punching the first page, use that hole as a guide for the others.
- Prep ribbon. Cut an eight-inch piece of ribbon. Fold the ribbon in half, then pull the raw ends of the ribbon through the hole, from the back of the ballots toward the front (roll the ribbon to fit, if needed). You should have a loop of ribbon on the back side of the ballot when you're finished.
- Pull ribbon ends through loop. Pass the raw ends of the ribbon through the loop and pull tight, securing the ribbon in place. Zhoosh the ribbon a bit to get it to lay right.
- Trim ribbon. Finally, use the scissors to trim the ribbon ends. I cut the ends on an angle pointing toward the center, but you can angle them in the other direction (or the same direction), if you prefer.
And that's all there is to it! Not only does it look nice, but packaging the pages like this ensures that everything stays in order, and you also don't have to worry about losing any of the pages.
Don't forget to gather some pens before the ceremony starts. Then, settle in for a exciting night!
Oscar Ballot Printable PDF
Click anywhere on images below to download your free printable 2023 Oscar ballot PDF. For best results, I recommend printing the files on letter-size cardstock (at full size).
If you have temperamental printer like I do, save yourself the grief and bring the files to your local FedEx Office (Kinkos), and ask them to print it on white card stock. The print quality is sooo much better than a home printer anyway! You can even order online, then pick up in store (perfect for saving some time!).
And don't forget about my Printable Oscar Bingo Cards ... they'll make your party even more fun!
Love your ideas!!
Thank you so much, Lori! Have fun watching the Oscars this weekend 🙂
