I always get a little excited at this time of year. The holidays may be over, but the Academy Awards are right around the corner!
My husband and I are massive movie fans. It's definitely our favorite date night activities, and he actually works in the entertainment industry. Which means that we have even more motivation to see as many Oscar nominated movies as possible.
Have you seen all of the best picture nominees? I'm actually doing pretty well this year ... only a couple to go! Though I am behind on the other categories (as usual). It's hard to keep up, and honestly, it could become a full time job at this point. Not that I'd mind ... ha!
If you're as big of a movie fan as I am, then my free printable 2020 Oscar ballot is for you!
This printable ballot is the perfect way to track your Oscar picks. It's an awesome addition to your Academy Awards viewing party, too, whether you'll be cozying up on the couch or throwing a blow out bash!

Easy Oscar-Themed Party Ideas
Are you looking for a few festive and easy Oscar party ideas to go with these Academy Awards ballots?
It's always fun to have your guests predict who they think will win each category. There's room on the Oscar ballot printable to mark the winners ahead of time. Just make sure to have enough pens for everyone!
Then, once the Academy Awards start, use the ballot as an Oscar scorecard. Keep track of the winners and assign points for each of the Oscar categories that your guests predict correctly. I’d suggest:
- Best Picture = 10 points
- Best Actor / Actress = 5 points
- Everything Else = 2 points
Whoever winds up with the most points by the end of the night wins! Make sure to have an award for the winner (like a bottle of wine, movie trivia game or book, etc.) ... it will up the ante and keep everyone interested.
To stay on theme, give your own Academy Awards to your guests. Vote on the best dressed guest, biggest movie buff, and more. Then award these gold award trophies ... they make a fun, on-theme prize and an excellent party favor, too!

How to Assemble the Printable Oscar Ballot
If you want to keep it simple, then feel free to use these Oscar nomination ballots as is.
If you're throwing an Academy Awards party or you really love movies though, then it's even more fun to assemble the ballots into a star-worthy package.
I've used many methods for putting these ballots together over the years (check out my ballots from 2015 through 2019 here). The layered look from 2017 is my fave!
This year, I kept things simple and tied the ballots together with ribbon. This creates an easy, but still super festive look!
Here's what you need to create the same look for your Oscar printable ballots:
- Oscar Ballot Printable (find it at the end of this post)
- cardstock
- self-healing mat
- ruler
- utility knife
- hole punch
- ¾ to 1-inch wide ribbon (This striped ribbon is very similar to what I used.)
- scissors
The first thing you need to do is download the ballot PDF (at the end of this post) and print it on cardstock. Make sure to print the ballot at FULL SIZE.
I usually bring projects like this to FedEx to get printed. My printer drives me nuts! And I love that I can order from FedEx online, then simply pick it up in store when I'm ready (or have it shipped). It's so easy, and the print quality is awesome ... much better than my dodgy printer.
Once the ballots are printed, place the pages on a self-healing mat to protect your table. Then use a utility knife and ruler to cut the pages in half. I prefer using a utility knife over a scissors, because it keeps the edges straight.
Grab your hole punch, and make a hole in the top center of each page.
You can measure the ballots to find the exact center or just eye-ball it. I'm more of an eye-baller myself!
Next, you'll add the ribbon. I did something a little different this year, and added two layers of ribbon. But you can create a similar look with one piece.
To do the same, start by cutting two 8-inch pieces of ribbon (or one piece, if you're doing one layer). Layer the ribbon pieces on top of each other, then fold them in half.
Pull the raw ends of the ribbon through the hole, from the back of the ballots toward the front. You may need to roll up the ribbons ends to fit them through the hole. When you're done, you will have a loop of ribbon on the back side of the ballot.
Pass the raw ends of the ribbon through the loop and pull tight, securing the ribbon in place. At this point, you may have to do a little pulling to get the ribbon to lay right.
Finally, trim the ribbon ends on an angle using your scissors. I cut the ends on an angle pointing toward the center.
And your ballots are done. Pretty easy, right?
You can use pretty much any kind of ribbon for this project, as long as it fits through the hole punch. Check out the previous year's ballots for inspiration.
The best thing about attaching the cards like this is that everything stays in order.
No worries about someone losing a card. Hey, you never know what will happen once the champagne starts flowing!
Remember to have lots of pens on hand for your guest, too.
